Over the last 50 years scientists have begun to study the link between calcium, vitamin D and its effects on cancer risk. In pursuit of this, scientists, in the 1950s, looked at weather conditions and health figures in warmer areas of the world to validate that more sunshine gives a richer supply of vitamin D which was the basis given for the lowest death rates from colon cancers in those areas. Since the 1950’s studies have sustained to establish a positive link between vitamin D and calcium and the prevention of cancer, right from prostrate cancer to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This is predominantly true in cases of breast cancers. In recent times there has been new evidence released from studies about how calcium and vitamin D prevent cancer. Scientists and researchers at Harvard University set-up tests with women who had not gone through menopause, it showed woman with elevated levels of vitamin D and calcium have a lesser likelihood of developing breast cancer than women with lower levels of these minerals. When Harvard researchers conducted the second study they came to the same result, and confirmed that vitamin D and calcium supplements help with the reduction of different kinds of cancer. These studies give us the evidence we need to appreciate the benefits of calcium and vitamin D in regards to preventing cancer. It was Otto Warburg that won the Nobel Prize in 1932 and came up with the theory that cancer is caused by lack of oxygen in the body. The blood in our bodies must always keep a constant alkaline level at a pH balance of 7.4; this will then help preserve the body’s oxygen. To maintain the alkaline in the body you should regularly take a good number of minerals in your daily diet, not enough mineral intake can lead to cancer, arthritis and other unremitting diseases from fluids becoming acidic due to lack of oxygen.
