Inkjet Ink – The Soul of Any Inkjet Printer However sophisticated a printer is, the quality of the prints taken from it would only depend on the quality of the inkjet ink that is used. The inkjet ink used in the cartridge is custom designed for specific type of print heads or printers. The type of ink that is used differs and depends on the purpose for which it is being used, its durability and the cost that the user can afford. The inkjet ink these days is available both as single cartridge and also as multiple cartridges. As the name specifies, the single cartridge system has all the colors in a single cartridge and on the other hand, multiple cartridge system has different cartridges for different colors. The biggest advantage of the latest inkjet ink printers is that they are capable of printing both black and white and colors prints on the same page. The most important quality of inkjet ink is its resistance to water and fading. These inks are of two types. They are either pigment based or dye based. Pigmented inkjet ink is very good in resisting fading of the colors and it is also water proof. But as far as the quality of the color is concerned, it is not up to the mark. The cost of pigmented ink is also higher than the dye based ink. Dye based inkjet ink produces high quality colors but they are not as good as pigmented ink in terms of its resistance towards fading and water solubility. It also takes more time to dry than pigmented ink prints. As already mentioned, inkjet inks are custom made to suit different types of printers. In most cases they are manufactured directly by the manufacturer of the printer itself. There are also third party vendor manufactured inkjet inks which are compatible for usage in all types of printers. They promise same quality as that of the original but there is no guarantee on that. They also offer inkjet ink refills which are very easy to handle. These refills are also available in do-it-yourself kits and are very simple to be fixed and used. Whatever assurance the third party vendor may give, the manufacturers are always clear about their statement. They always suggest usage of original inkjet ink in order to get best results out of the printers. This is actually true as different printers produce good quality printouts only with particular brand of inkjet inks. The manufacturers also claim that the composition of inkjet printers are very complex and it can be achieved and produced only by authorized manufacturers. Looking at these complications and varied comments, it is always better to go with the original products as at least we would get the guarantee of the manufacturer if there should be any problem in the printer later due to the usage of the ink. For other high quality and commercial uses, inkjet inks like water based, oil based, solvent based, hybrid ink and UV curing ink are used. All of them have their own specialty. Though these types of inks cost high, they produce very good result, resolution and durability.
