Is Fiberglass Insulation Safe?

By: Eric Minden

Fiber glass insulation is composed of glass fibers that have been bound together with
a binder, either faced or unfaced, and is used to insulate walls and roofs.

This type of insulation has different uses for different projects, such as controlling
temperature and sound in homes, buildings, and industrial companies. As well as sound
control for air ducts, roofs, pipes, walls, floors, mobile homes, vehicles, and aircraft
to name a few of the uses.

There are also benefits to using fiberglass insulation. Some of the benefits are cost
effectiveness and it saves energy, thus helping to reduce energy and heating bills in
the home or business. Using fiberglass insulation for industrial uses, helps to cut the
energy loss and decreases productivity costs, thus making the industry more profitable.
Fiberglass insulation also helps keep the environment safe by reducing the amount of
pollution emissions that are put into the air when the insulation is installed.

When shopping for insulation and what would be best for your home or business you will
want to compare other values such as performance and fire safety between the different
types of insulation. Fiberglass insulation has many different factors than other types
of insulation. These include thermal and lifetime performance, fire safety, moisture,
air infiltration, and it is environmentally friendly.

Fiberglass insulation is also completely safe to use in your home. If there has been
fiberglass insulation installed prior to your purchase, you have nothing to worry about.
Although the initial installation can be a hassle, the only risk a person may encounter
is temporary itching. This is because the insulation does contain glass fibers and if
these fibers come in contact with your skin it will cause minor irritation.

The itching will usually go away after a shower, if the itching persists then you should
contact your doctor. This insulation is thoroughly tested in buildings and homes. Since
fiberglass insulation helps reduce energy and utility bills in homes and business, it
is no wonder that this is the most common type of insulation.
