My friend thought I had lost my mind when I decided to start researching how inventions get patented. I think most of my friends would describe me as a crackpot, with good reason I am always the one who is coming up with the ideas that are "outside of the box." Part of it is fun and part of it is a good mind at work. Even though it could be a crazy idea, I like thinking that I am the first person to come up with it. People looked at me as though I had gone insane when I started filing for a patent for my invention. Just because I wouldn't discuss it, it didn't keep my friends from offering their opinions. It's not that I feared them stealing my invention patents or something. It's not that I don't have confidence in my friends; I just don't like to talk about project while I'm in the midst of them. Once I get to talking, I usually don't manage to finish my project. What I thought would happen was that once I had filed for my invention patents, I'd be talking their ears of about it until they wished I had never mentioned it. Meanwhile, however, I wanted to be quiet. Believe it or not patening an invention can be hard. There are numerous tasks involved in filing an invention patent. To begin the process, you search to make sure that no one else has already come up with an item similar to yours. However, it just gets harder after that. Invention patents are easy if you're trained in drafting. I found it to be nearly overwhelming. Copious pages of graphs and charts are needed so you can clearly and distinctly explain every aspect of how your invention works. There have to be a ton of patents that are not filed each year since the work to do so is so intense. I'm almost positive that patenting inventions is a worthwhile endeavor in the end. I don't just envision getting rich from my invention; however that is a portion of my dream. I want my invention to make life easier and more enjoyable for someone. I think this, more than anything else, drives many of the great inventor. The history of patents is lengthy and interesting, consisting of stories of eccentric geniuses who have the goal of improving the future with inventions.
